LESSON QUESTION
How adequate were governments’ responses to the Sixties Scoop?
LESSON CHALLENGE
Grade how well governments have responded to the Sixties Scoop.
LESSON SUMMARY
Before beginning this lesson, please be aware that it examines the Sixties Scoop and other injustices done to Indigenous people, including those in Matawa communities. Traumas related to these events may affect generations of the survivors’ families, as well as those who have experienced similar historical injustices in other times and places. If you are a student reading this activity and identify with the struggles mentioned in the learning material, please be mindful of how the learning may affect you. If the material does affect you, you are encouraged to seek the support of school Elders or those in your community. Your school wellness workers or cultural workers can help guide you through this learning and the possible effects. If needed, take a moment and request a smudge if holistic supports benefit you, or consider other strategies such as a mindfulness walk or noting your emotions in your Thoughtbook.
BIG IDEA
Individuals and organizations can take responsibility for actions that cause harm.
